Patriotic Sugar Cookie Bars

Celebrate the 4th of July with these festive Patriotic Sugar Cookie Bars, adorned with red, white, and blue sprinkles and perfect for sharing at gatherings.

  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) salted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup patriotic sprinkles (jimmies)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) salted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 3 tbsp cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • Extra red, white, and blue sprinkles for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare a 9×13-inch baking dish by lining it with parchment paper.
  3. Mix together the softened butter and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract.
  4. Whisk the all-purpose flour and baking powder in a separate bowl.
  5. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Fold in 1/4 cup of patriotic jimmies.
  7. Pour the cookie dough into the prepared baking dish and smooth it out.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until edges are golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then lift out to cool completely.
  10. Make the frosting by creaming together the softened butter, cream cheese, and powdered sugar. Add vanilla and milk to reach desired consistency.
  11. Frost the cooled cookie bars and add extra sprinkles on top.
