Orange Cinnamon Rolls

Delightful orange-flavored cinnamon rolls, perfect for breakfast or brunch, with a sweet glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup orange zest
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm milk with the active dry yeast and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Whisk together, then add butter, egg, orange zest, and foamy yeast. Stir until shaggy.
  3. Knead the dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let it rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for about an hour until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare the filling: Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread butter, then sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon, and orange juice. Roll tightly and cut into 12 pieces.
  6. Cut and arrange: Place cut rolls in a greased baking pan, cover, and let rise for about 30 minutes.
  7. Bake to perfection: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Glaze it up: Whisk powdered sugar and orange juice in a bowl, drizzle over warm rolls.
