Juicy Japanese BBQ Chicken Thighs

Tender, marinated chicken thighs grilled to perfection with a savory and sweet Japanese BBQ glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 chicken thighs, boneless and skinless
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons mirin
  • 2 tablespoons sake
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 green onion, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the Marinade: In a medium bowl, combine the soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil. Whisk everything together until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Marinate the Chicken: Place the chicken thighs in a zip-lock bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over them, ensuring they are well-coated. Seal the bag and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat Your Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  4. Grill the Chicken: Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting any excess drip off. Place the thighs on the grill, cooking for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  5. Rest the Chicken: Once cooked, transfer the chicken to a plate and cover it with foil. Allow it to rest for about 5 minutes.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Slice the chicken and sprinkle it with chopped green onions. Drizzle with sesame oil if desired.

Notes

These chicken thighs pair beautifully with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables. Feel free to add your own twist to the marinade for different flavors.
