The Ultimate Cinnamon Swirl Bread

A warm, inviting Cinnamon Swirl Bread, perfect for breakfast, snacks, or dessert, filled with sweet cinnamon sugar.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 packet instant yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup milk (warm)
  • 1/4 cup butter (melted)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon (for swirl)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar, then sprinkle the yeast over the top. Give it a gentle stir and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until bubbly.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Add the melted butter, egg, salt, cinnamon, and about one cup of flour to the mixture. Stir until well combined, then gradually incorporate the remaining flour until sticky.
  3. Knead the Dough: Transfer to a floured surface, knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise: Place in a greased bowl, cover, and set in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  5. Roll Out the Dough: Punch down and roll it out to a rectangle about 12×18 inches.
  6. Prepare the Filling: Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then spread over the dough, leaving a margin at the edges.
  7. Swirl It Up: Roll the dough tightly into a log and pinch the seam to seal.
  8. Second Rise: Place seam-side down in a greased pan, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat the Oven: Set oven to 350°F (175°C) while dough rises.
  10. Bake: Once risen, bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  11. Cool and Serve: Let cool in pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a nutty twist, add chopped nuts to the cinnamon sugar mixture. Vegan version available by substituting the egg and milk.
