Crispy Fried Green Tomatoes

A Southern classic, crispy fried green tomatoes that delivers a crunchy texture and tangy flavor—perfect for sharing with loved ones.

  • 4 green tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Slice the tomatoes into about 1/4-inch thick rounds.
  2. Season the sliced tomatoes with salt and pepper, and let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Prepare your breading station with flour, whisked eggs with milk, and a mixture of cornmeal and breadcrumbs.
  4. Coat each tomato slice in the flour, dip into the egg mixture, then coat with the cornmeal/breadcrumb mixture.
  5. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  6. Fry the coated tomatoes for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.
  7. Drain on paper towels and repeat with remaining tomatoes.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding cayenne pepper to the egg mixture or mixing herbs into the cornmeal.
