  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs

  • 1½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 23 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare a 9×9 inch baking pan with butter or parchment paper.
  3. Mix together the softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until incorporated.
  5. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl.
  6. Blend dry mixture into wet ingredients, alternating with milk, until combined.
  7. Prepare cinnamon mixture by combining brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter.
  8. Layer half the batter in the pan, dollop cinnamon mixture, swirl, and top with remaining batter.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Cool for 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  11. Frost cooled bars with cream cheese frosting made by mixing cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla.
