Swirled Garlic Herb and Cheese Bread

This homemade bread features a delightful swirl of garlic, herbs, and cheese, perfect for sharing and enjoying warm.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella or your choice)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh herbs (such as rosemary and thyme), chopped
  • 3 cloves roasted garlic, mashed

Instructions

  1. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, salt, and sugar.
  2. Add the warm water and olive oil: Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the warm water and olive oil, mixing until it comes together into a shaggy dough.
  3. Knead the dough: Dust your countertop lightly with flour, then turn the dough out onto it and knead for about 8–10 minutes.
  4. Let it rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for about an hour.
  5. Make the herb and cheese mixture: While the dough rises, mix your shredded cheese, chopped herbs, and roasted garlic in a small bowl.
  6. Roll out the dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it into a rectangle, about 12×16 inches.
  7. Spread the filling: Evenly spread the cheese-herb-garlic mixture over the dough.
  8. Roll it up: Roll the dough tightly into a log and pinch the seams to seal.
  9. Shape the loaf: Twist the filled log into a spiral shape and place it into a greased loaf pan.
  10. Let it rise again: Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  11. Bake to perfection: Bake for about 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  12. Cool and enjoy: Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
