Fall Caramel Apple Crisp

A comforting and indulgent dessert featuring juicy apples topped with a buttery oat crisp and drizzled with rich caramel sauce.

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice (30ml)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (100g)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (16g)
  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats (135g)
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar (150g)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (115g)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (60g)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (120ml)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the apples: Toss sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Set aside.
  3. Make the oat topping: Combine rolled oats, brown sugar, flour, pecans (if using), and salt in a bowl. Melt the butter and mix until crumbly.
  4. Assemble the crisp: Grease a baking dish, pour in the apple mixture, and sprinkle the oat topping evenly.
  5. Bake it: Place in the oven and bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
  6. Add caramel: For homemade caramel, melt sugar, stir in butter, then slowly drizzle heavy cream while stirring.
  7. Serve it up: Drizzle warm caramel over the crisp and serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

For a twist, substitute apples with pears or add dried cranberries for extra flavor. Can be prepped ahead of time.
