Baked Orange Cauliflower

A vibrant and zesty dish that transforms cauliflower into a delightful main attraction with a citrus twist.

  • 1/2 head of cauliflower (cut into bite-sized florets)
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs (whisked)
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1/4 cup + 2 tbsp orange juice
  • 1/4 cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 1/2 tbsp vinegar
  • 1/8 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 1/4 tsp ginger (minced)
  • 1 tsp sriracha
  • 1 tsp ketchup
  • 2 tsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Prepare the cauliflower: Wash and cut it into bite-sized florets.
  3. Make the binding mixture: In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and water.
  4. Coat the cauliflower with the egg mixture until well-coated.
  5. Add the panko breadcrumbs and toss to coat the florets evenly.
  6. Prepare the glaze in a small saucepan: Combine orange juice, sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, minced garlic, minced ginger, sriracha, and ketchup; stir until sugar dissolves.
  7. Thicken the sauce by whisking cornstarch and water into the simmering glaze until it coats the back of a spoon.
  8. Bake the coated cauliflower on a lined baking sheet for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Remove from the oven and drizzle the glaze over the florets; toss gently.
  10. Transfer to a serving platter and sprinkle with sesame seeds or chopped green onions.
