Artisan Apple Bread

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 cup diced apples
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm water and sugar in a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients by whisking flour, salt, and cinnamon in another bowl.
  3. Combine everything by slowly pouring the bubbly yeast mixture into the flour mixture, along with diced apples and olive oil.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. First rise by forming the dough into a ball, placing it in a greased bowl, covering, and letting it rise for about 1-2 hours.
  6. Shape the loaf by punching down the risen dough and transferring it to a floured surface.
  7. Second rise by covering the shaped loaf and letting it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

This bread is versatile and can be customized with nuts, spices, or cheese. For a vegan option, replace olive oil with coconut oil and sweeten naturally.
