Delicious cinnamon rolls infused with the flavors of apple pie, perfect for breakfast or a sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 1½ tsp salt
  • 2¼ tsp instant dry yeast
  • 120 g sugar
  • 240 ml lukewarm milk
  • 60 g unsalted melted butter, cooled to room temperature
  • 1 egg at room temperature
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 900 g apples, peeled and chopped
  • 60 g unsalted butter
  • 170 g brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, yeast, and sugar. Mix them together until well blended. Next, pour in the lukewarm milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Stir until a rough dough forms.
  2. Knead: On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise for about 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the Apple Filling: While the dough is rising, chop your apples into small chunks. In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter, add the apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, salt, and water. Cook over medium heat for about 5–7 minutes or until the apples are slightly soft but still hold their shape. Set aside to cool.
  5. Roll Out the Dough: After the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll it into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Assemble the Rolls: Spread your apple mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Starting with the long end, roll the dough tightly towards the other end to form a log.
  7. Cut the Rolls: Using a sharp knife, slice the rolled dough into 12 equal pieces. Arrange them in a greased baking dish.
  8. Second Rise: Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rest for another 30–45 minutes.
  9. Bake: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the cinnamon rolls for about 25–30 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Glazing (optional): Mix powdered sugar, a splash of milk or water, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle it on top once the rolls have cooled slightly.
