Apple Pecan Cinnamon Rolls

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter (plus more for greasing)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups cooked apple pie filling
  • 1/2 cup toasted pecans
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. Mix the warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Whisk together the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add the frothy yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  6. Roll the dough out on a floured surface into a rectangle (12×18 inches).
  7. Spread the cinnamon and brown sugar mixture, apple pie filling, and toasted pecans over the rolled dough.
  8. Tightly roll the dough from the long edge into a log and slice into 12 pieces.
  9. Place the slices in a greased baking dish and let them rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  10. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Mix the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk to make the frosting and spread it over the warm rolls.

Notes

These rolls can be made ahead and stored in the fridge overnight. Let them come to room temperature before baking.
