Apple Fritter Focaccia

A delightful culinary creation that merges the nostalgic flavor of classic apple fritters with the texture of focaccia.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Slowly add the warm water and olive oil. Stir until a wet, sticky dough forms.
  2. Knead the Dough: On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for about an hour until it doubles in size.
  4. Prepare the Apple Filling: Combine diced apples, cinnamon, and brown sugar in a bowl. Mix well and set aside.
  5. Shape the Focaccia: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a baking sheet. Stretch it into a rectangle.
  6. Add the Apples: Make dimples in the dough and pile the apple filling evenly across the focaccia.
  7. Second Rise: Cover again with a towel and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Glaze Time: Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla in a bowl until smooth.
  10. Drizzle: Once the focaccia cools, drizzle the glaze over the top and slice to serve.
